Topic: Socialism in its Many Forms

David McReynolds – author, activist & subject of Martin Duberman’s biography “A Saving Remnant: The Radical Lives of Barbara Deming and David McReynolds”- will open up a discussion of: “Socialism in its Many Forms:  An Overview of the Theory, History, and Practice.”  What is socialism?  Does anyone really know?  It seems that each person has their own definition.  David McReynolds, who is in town only briefly, has generously agreed to share his knowledge and experience with Occupy Forum in the Park.  McReynolds, arrested many times during peace; civil rights; and labor demonstrations, was the Socialist Party Presidential Candidate in 1980 and 2000, and one of the first to burn his draft card during the Vietnam War.  He was Field Secretary of War Resisters League from 1960 to 1999, and Chair of the War Resisters International from 1986 to 1988.  He will help us gain a better understanding of the history and many forms of socialism and speak about his rich history of resisting war. All are invited to join in this discussion.

Location: Bradley Manning Plaza (formerly Justin Herman Plaza), conveniently located near the Embarcadero BART Station and the Ferry Building.
We will have seating, blankets to keep you warm, amplified sound, and peacekeepers to keep it alcohol, interruption, & smoke-free.
